CQC found this care home to be providing an Good service.

The inspector made no statutory requirements on the home as a result of this inspection and there were no outstanding actions from the previous inspection report.

What the care home does well

The Chimes provides a good quality service to vulnerable people. There is a consistent staff team, who receive regular up to date training. This helps to give the assurance that a skilled and adequately trained staff team provide a good service to people. The management/proprietor is prepared and willing to accept advise and act accordingly. There were no previous requirements or recommendations from the last Inspection visit that was carried out by The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).

What the care home could do better:

Continue with the progress that has been made since the previous inspection visit including, the redecoration programme. Keep the Care Quality Commission (CQC) informed of any potential developments that could affect the people living at the home.

Date of last inspection Brief description of the care home The Chimes Care home provides residential care for up to 21 older people. It is situated close to the centre of St Annes, with leisure amenities and local shops close by. The home is on three floors and a passenger lift is in place. There are a number of Care Homes for Older People Page 2 of 7 Brief description of the care home aids and adaptations in place throughout the care home suitable for the age range and needs of residents living there. There are fifteen single rooms and three double rooms and at present ten bedrooms have en-suite facilities. Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: A meeting had been arranged on the 14th August 2009 at The Chimes. The meeting was to discuss some regulatory issues, that had been brought to the attention of the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The registered manager Margaret Brady, a representative from the Social Services contract department, Ian Jeavons and Phil McConnell from CQC and other interested parties attended the meeting. The meeting was positive, giving assurances that the wellbeing of the people using the service, are and will continue to be paramount. Following the meeting a tour of the premises was carried out and it was evident that the home continues to provide good quality outcomes for the people living there. The staffing levels were observed and they were found to be satisfactory, to meet the assessed needs of the people living at The Chimes. At the present time there are 15 people living at The Chimes and he home was observed to be clean, hygienic and well maintained. The overall decor was of a good standard, with peoples bedrooms containing their own belongings, helping to show that people are encouraged to individualise their bedrooms. People were observed sitting in the lounges and it was apparent that some people had recently finished their breakfasts, with people saying they had enjoyed their breakfasts.
