Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The annual service review for The Grove included the following: An Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) was sent to the home by The Care Quality Commission (CQC) and completed by the registered manager who returned it within the required timescale. The AQAA is a self assessment dataset that must be completed annually by all registered providers. It is one of the main ways we gather information about the provision of care and how providers believe they are meeting the assessed needs of the people using their services. The manager gave details of what the home has achieved during the past 12 months and any plans due for completion during the next 12 months. We sent out survey questionnaires to resident, family members and staff. We looked at information about how the manager dealt with any issues or complaints. We checked the previous key inspection report and the annual service review completed last year. We also looked at any notifications about events in the home sent to CQC since the last annual service review. We also checked to see if we had received any information about the service from other agencies. What has this told us about the service? From the details outlined in the AQAA and information received from other sources we judge that this service continues to exceed the National Minimum Standards (NMS) of the Care Standards Act. We received completed questionnaires from those living and working in The Grove, all of which contained positive comments about the care and support provided. Those returned by residents told us that the care and support provided enabled them to lead an interesting and fulfilling life. All healthcare needs are met through good working relationships with external healthcare professionals. Comments from those working at the home included. I have received lots of training since I started at The Grove, I feel that all the service users are treated as individuals and managers have a good rapport with staff and service users, The Grove supports all service users and their individual needs, All relevant information is updated e.g. care plans and risk assessments, We have a good staff team and enough to meet all the needs and I attend all the update courses I need to fulfill my role. The AQAA evidenced how the manager listens to the views of people through meetings and one to one conversations. During the past 12 months there have been a number of changes in the home to ensure a high standard of care and support. These have included, an improved service user guide and an activity plan for each individual. Refurbishment and decoration has improved the environmental standards and the provision of designated transport has meant that the residents can go out every weekend. Paperwork with regards to medical appointments has been introduced to ensure these are made in a timely manner. Staff training in learning disability and protection of vulnerable adults has been completed by all staff. Arrangements are now in place for a member of staff to represent the home at company meetings and events. Plans for the next 12 months include, improvements to the admission /transition process to ensure this is as comfortable as possible for anyone wishing to move into Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 the home. The manager hopes to continue with the refurbishment plans to improve the environmental standards. She is hoping to access new and meaningful activities for those who live in The Grove in order to further improve their quality of life and leisure time. Staff training will continue and will focus on health action planning to ensure all relevant documentation is reviewed regularly and updated to meet changing needs. The manager is also hoping to look at new ways of passing on information to the residents to keep them fully up to date with any changes that may be necessary. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will not change out inspection plan and will complete a key inspection by the 8th May 2010. We can, however, visit and inspect this service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of service being provided or the safety of the people living in The Grove.
