This is an overview of what the inspector found during the inspection. This was an unannounced inspection which took place over one day the manager was present during this inspection. As part of this inspection care plans were looked at, recruitment practice and training were also examined. Discussion took place with a number of residents about the care provided at the home. What the service does well: What has improved since the last inspection? What they could do better:
Whilst there is a good standard in the writing of care plans there needs to be more consistent practice in their completion and updating particularly with regard to risk assessments and reviews. This was the only area of improvement identified from this inspection.

The intended outcomes for Standards 1 – 6 are: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Prospective service users have the information they need to make an informed choice about where to live. Each service user has a written contract/ statement of terms and conditions with the home. No service user moves into the home without having had his/her needs assessed and been assured that these will be met. Service users and their representatives know that the home they enter will meet their needs. Prospective service users and their relatives and friends have an opportunity to visit and assess the quality, facilities and suitability of the home. Service users assessed and referred solely for intermediate care are helped to maximise their independence and return home. The Commission considers Standards 3 and 6 the key standards to be inspected at least once during a 12 month period. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for standard(s) 3 The quality of assessments obtained by the home and undertaken by the home on admission were of a good standard providing a full and comprehensive picture of individual’s health and social care needs. This helps the home meet identified needs and provide good quality care. EVIDENCE: Records of residents contained Pre-Assessment information which included details about general health, social needs and relationships, personal safety and risk, likes and dislikes. Assessments completed by the local authority were also included in resident’s information. Woodland Grove D05_ D56_ S8163_ WoodlandGrove_V238853_ 050805_ Stage4.doc Version 1.40 Page 9 Health and Personal Care
The intended outcomes for Standards 7 – 11 are: 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. The service user’s health, personal and social care needs are set out in an individual plan of care. Service users’ health care needs are fully met. Service users, where appropriate, are responsible for their own medication, and are protected by the home’s policies and procedures for dealing with medicines. Service users feel they are treated with respect and their right to privacy is upheld. Service users are assured that at the time of their death, staff will treat them and their family with care, sensitivity and respect. The Commission considers Standards 7, 8, 9 and 10 the key standards to be inspected at least once during a 12 month period. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for standard(s) 7,9,10 Care planning practice needs to be more rigorous and consistent to make sure full information is available to provide the necessary care to residents. The systems and practice for the giving of medication are good with well organised arrangements and staff training in place to make sure resident’s medication needs are met in a safe way. Residents are treated as individuals with respect and their right to privacy respected. EVIDENCE: Where care plans had been fully completed there was good detail about the personal and health needs of residents. Risk assessments are undertaken though again in some cases ie for resident who was self-medicating one had not been undertaken. Reviews on a monthly basis are held but in two instances no review had been completed. Personal histories involving the involvement of residents provided information about the individual’s life. Mobility assessments were completed. Medication administering records were accurate and had been satisfactory completed to evidence the giving of medication. Photographs are contained in
