What the care home does well To make sure the home can meet peoples personal care and support needs these are assessed before coming to live in the home. Records show people are fully involved in the assessment process and have a say in how they are to be supported and cared for. People are encouraged to live as ordinary a lifestyle as possible which includes using ordinary community based health care and leisure services. Discussion with people living in the home found they are very happy and pleased with the care and support they receive. People are protected by the way staff are recruited and selected as records show police , POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults List) checks are taken up before they are employed. Peoples health, safety and well-being is promoted and protected as records show staff receive Health and Safety , Moving and Handling,First Aid,Infection Control and Food Hygiene training. People are protected from any kind of abuse as records show there is a Safeguarding Policy and Procedure for staff to follow telling them what to do if any allegations of abuse are made. People are further protected as staff records show they have Safeguarding training including regular update training. People are protected by the way their medicines are dealt with as records show there is a Medication Administration Policy and Procedure for staff to follow and they also receive training in how to give medicines safely. The minutes of residents meetings, reviews and satisfaction surveys show people have the opportunity to comment on the services provided and how they live their day to day lives. People said the enjoy going shopping and choosing their own menu. People aid they haverecently come back from a holiday at Skegness and that they `enjoyed` their holiday very much. People benefit from living in a well managed home that is run in their best interests and where they have a say in how they live their lives. What the care home could do better: This visit found that the service continues to meet peoples care and support needs and people continue to enjoy living in the home and living a lifestyle of their choice. The home is located within a semi-detached house in a residential area of Pontefract. The home is a few minutes walk from the centre of Pontefract and all local amenities. It is on a main bus route, There are local shops, public houses and clubs close by. Service users are very able and a supported in living as ordinary life as possible.The services users, who are able to communicate the help they require from support workers set the tone of the home. The service users living in the home consider it a home for life and do not anticipate moving elsewhere. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 2 of 7 What we found:
This random visit started at 09.00 and ended at 11.00. During the visit there was the opportunity to speak to the registered manager and owner, support workers and people living in the home. Other information considered included a sample of peoples records, including assessments , care plans, activity records and reviews. Other information considered was the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment, previous inspection reports, service history and returned satisfaction surveys. This was a very positive visit and the inspector would like to take the opportunity to thank people living in the home and the manager and staff team for their hospitality and cooperation throughout this visit.
