Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection which took place on 16 June 2008. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and detailed and gave us all the information we asked for. We also received 8 completed surveys from people living at the home. Everyone who responded had been assisted by a relative in completing the forms. 8 new residents moved into the home in the last year. The surveys tell us that everyone receives sufficient information about the home prior to making a decision to move in. Everyone says they receive the care, support and medical attention they need. In the last year initial care plans have been developed more quickly with support of family members if agreed by the service user. Residents tell us that there are usually enough staff available when needed and that they listen and act on what is said. Some staff would like to see more members available, especially at peak times. The AQAA and residents tells us that a varied activities programme is offered at the Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 home. The activities co-ordinator aims to accommodate suggestions for the programmme. Residents benefit from regular visitors to the home which enhances contact with the outside world. Residents tell us that they enjoy varied meals and contribute to menu planning with the cooks. Nutritional screening undertaken. All comments and complaints are taken seriously by the home and there is a clear complaints policy. All the residents responding to a survey said they knew who to talk to if they had a concern or complaint. 2 complaints were received during the year. One was resolved within the 28 day timescale, the other continues to await an outcome. All staff who responded to a survey are clear about the complaints policy. 17 care staff are employed at the home. 13 have completed induction training, 7 have achieved an NVQ level 2 or above in care. 5 staff have left employment in the last year. We received 3 completed surveys from staff. Surveys tell us that staff they are usually provided with up to date information about the needs of the people they care for. Although some commented that, sometimes people turn up without their case notes and have to chased . Staff say that training is always being planned and that there is a good atmosphere for staff to work in. Staff say that the service meets the needs of individuals and the care is good. Residents say, the home is kept very well and the staff are very good. There are a range of policies and procedures in operating. All have been reviewed during the year. The AQAA tells us that in the last twelve months the service has improved through continuing to maintain a high level of care , despite staffing shortages. Training is now better planned and more accessible to staff. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 15 June, 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
