What the care home does well We are unable comment on what the service does well as no standards were assessed on this visit. What the care home could do better: We are unable to comment on what the service could do better as no standards were assessed on this visit. The requirements and recommendations made at the last Key Inspection in March 2010 were not checked to determine if the home has met them or not, and so they still remain as outstanding, until such time as a new inspection site visit is carried out in September 2010. This will be in relation to the home making a registration transfer application before October 2010 and will include a site visit to determine compliance with the new outcomes and regulations of the Health & Social Care Act. The Random Inspection carried out today was to gather more and up-to-date evidence of the services poor performance since the last Key Inspection in March 2010. We did not interview anyone living in the home or the staff and we did not inspect the premises. We looked at care plans for all of the people living there and at recruitment files and training records for all of the staff working there. We found that care plan documents had improved since the last key inspection, showing improved actions for meeting needs, and that there were more risk assessment documents in place for relevant areas of risk. We found the provider was making efforts to change assessments and care plans by buying in consultant advice and a package of documents that would benefit the service and prove to be more effective than current systems in use. We found that staff recruitment files now contain evidence of applications, except for one staff, and of interviews and security checks with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). There were still some references missing for two staff. We found evidence of training courses staff had completed, some still pre-Bempton employment, but also some that have been done while employed at Bempton Old Rectory and since the last Key Inspection. New staff files had been set up.
