Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found: Melanie Edwards who is a Compliance Inspector was accompanied by Dick Sayers, who is a Senior Manager in our Finance and Corporate Services directorate. We met two of the residents living at the home. We spoke to them about the care and support they receive and what daily life is like at the home. We met the acting manager, two of the care staff and one of the domestic staff. We saw staff helping residents with their care needs. We looked at two peoples care plan records, to find out what sort of care and support they need and how staff will aim to provide this. We checked the records of controlled drugs that are kept in the home, we cross checked the record with the medication that was being stored in the controlled drugs cupboard. We did this to see if medication is stored safely. We toured the premises to see if it is a safe and suitable place for people to live in. We looked at the employment records of the last two staff that had been employed. We checked these records to see if there are robust recruitment procedures in place, to protect the residents from people who may not be suitable to work at the home. We read the last two months of accident records, these showed when people had an accident and what action had been taken to maintain their safety.
