Assessments in care files seen were found to contain relevant information providing care staff with information needed to meet assessed care needs. Information could be held in a more logical sequence, one care plan seemed not to hold instruction for the care of a resident with diabetes. The information was provided however but in a different part of the care file. Activities in the service have been increased having listened to the views of residents. The menu is also reviewed daily in line with residents requests, likes and dislikes and seasonal variations Rooms are refurbished as they become vacant. The boilers in the home have been replaced and some redecoration of communal areas and hallways has taken place since the last key inspection. Mr Stewart-Hart and Ms Bodzon, registered persons, stated that a hairdressing salon and an extra toilet area are on their wish list for future developments. The service continues to inform us of any incidents in the home and sows that these are managed well. An inspection by Weymouth and Portland Borough council in March 2009 resulted in a schedule of required works being issued in respect of the kitchens under the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006. A review of the kitchen facilities evidenced that most of these requirements are met with plans to complete some tasks in the coming weeks including replacement of the cupboard doors and replacement of the extractor fan that was due to take place later in the week of inspection. The providers manage a stable staff group with a low turnover rate, an equality and diversity policy is in place. The Chesnuts operates in internal Quality Assurance programme which seeks the views of service users and their carers on the level of services and facilities, the results of theses are audited and a brief report is made avaialble; examination of this confirmed that the current resident group is satsfied with the service provided What the care home does well: What they could do better: If you want to know what action the person responsible for this care home is taking following this report, you can contact them using the details set out on page 2.
