Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked an information received and requested since the last inspection. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) was completed by the home and returned to the Commission within agreed timescales. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information. The home keep us informed of any significant events at the home through the Regulation 37 notifications and make telephone contact with the Commission if they have any concerns or wish to share information. The Commission have not investigated any concerns about the service in the last twelve months. What has this told us about the service? This has told us that the home continues to provide excellent outcomes for people using the service. The AQAA told us that the home continues to monitor the quality of the service provided and that it takes steps to further improve the quality of the service. It told us that the home continues to ensure that people are fully assessed before a placement is offered and that, it the last twelve months, the company have improved the pre-admission assessment documentation so that it is more in-depth. The home continue to ensure that people have the opportunity to visit the home prior to making a decision to move there. The AQAA told us that they plan to further develop this so that people and their relatives can stay for the whole day having the opportunity to join in with activities and stay for a meal. The AQAA told us that it is acknowledged that the environment could be better for people and that planning permission for the new build is pending. It also told us that the home continues to ensure that the current environment is decorated and maintained to a good standard for people. It told us that work on the garden areas ensure that people can enjoy a pleasant outside area. It told us that the home continue to ensure that peoples health care needs are met and that links with health care professionals are very good. It told us that a community matron now visits the home on a twice weekly. The AQAA told us that people are supported to remain at the home during their final days. It stated; We are involved in the Gold Standards Framework training for staff in end of life care. It told us that people are treated with respect and that their right to privacy is upheld. It told us that the home have now introduced a dignity champion. The AQAA told us that people continue to have plenty of opportunity for social stimulation. The home has a programme of activities and has developed strong links with the local community. The AQAA stated; We promote independence and focus on Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 peoples abilities not their disabilities It told us that the home have plans for a coffee shop and picnic area. The AQAA told us that people continue to benefit from a well trained workforce and that 75 of the care staff team have now achieved a minimum of an NVQ level 2 in care. It told us that the home is effectively managed and that the registered manager is committed to further developing their skills and knowledge. It told us that the homes policies and procedures ensure that people are protected from the risk of harm or abuse. It also told us that the home ensure that staff receive up to date and appropriate training in adult protection issues. The AQAA told us that the home have effective complaints procedures in place and that complaints are appropriately responded to. The AQAA told us that the homes procedures relating to health and safety were up to date and that the home have good procedures in place to reduce the risk of the spread of infection. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will carry out a key inspection by 27th August 2011. We can however inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or of the safety of people using the service.
