This focused inspection was carried out on the 25th May 2010 to review the requirements made at the last key inspection when the quality rating of this service was 1 star, which meant that people using the service, at that time, experienced adequate quality outcomes. The inspection was carried out by one inspector. The term We is used throughout the report to reflect the findings of the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The Registered Manager was on hand throughout our stay to aid the inspection process. All staff made us welcome and were extremely helpful. We toured the premises, spoke with people at the home, reviewed a variety of care documentation and staffing records. We received completed surveys from residents and staff, who told us what they thought of the service provided at Culliford House. Since the last inspection the standard of care documentation had improved and provided staff with a good level of information so that they were able to meet the needs of people living at the home. People told us they were happy with the care they received. We saw staff carrying out their duties in a cheerful and professional manner. We saw that the complaints policy had been reviewed and a log of complaints was kept. Since the last inspection one complaint had been received and had been investigated in line with the homes policy. People told us that they knew who to speak with if they had any concerns and that they would be listened to. The Registered Manager showed us the training records and confirmed that staff had received all the mandatory training. Further training that had been undertaken included palliative care; management of diabetes; management of incontinence and nutrition. Over 50 of care staff hold the minimum of an NVQ 2 award in care. This training had helped equip the staff with the skills they need to provide a good level of care. We reviewed the personnel file for a new member of staff and found that recruitment processes were robust, which meant that only suitable staff were employed to work in the home and residents were well protected.
