What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection on 19th November 2008. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The home told us that they intend to further improve by: Continuing to take necessary action from the home survey questionnaire and feed back received from service users and stake holders annual survey results. Also, continuing to work with staff in order to achieve high standards of documentation practices. The information received indicates that staff are valued and supported at the home. We are told that three key members of staff successfully completing relevant courses in palliative care level 3 and 2 members of staff, including the manager, has successfully completed the certificate in Equality & Diversity level 2. Seven of the twelve permanant staff have achieved National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) to level 2 or above. This is an indicator of competence. We received nine survey responses from people who use the service and one from a G.P. who attends people at the home. The G.P. told us: the home always ensures there is accurate information gathered about people; peoples social and health care needs are usually properly monitored, reviewed and met; advice is usually sought as necessary; staff have the skills and experience to support people and the home always responds appropriately to any concerns. They added: A homely, caring environment. People who use the service told us: they could always, or usually, make decisions about what they do each day; they knew who to speak to if they were not happy, how to make a complaint and that staff treat them well and the home is always fresh and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 clean. Asked what the home does well their comments include: Food, cleaning and listening to complaints and Looks after me well. One person told us the home would be better if it had a piano. We spoke with one person who uses the service and he told us: Im quite a gourmet and the quanity of food is fine and the quality excellent. Staff are quite professional. We have received no complaints about the home. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 19th November 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
