Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found: A random inspection was carried out as part of the Commissions programme of visiting good and excellent services to ensure that they are continuing to maintain their standards. During the visit we looked at some case files which contain records of the care given to the people living in the home. They were completed to a good standard and gave the staff good information to meet individual needs. The care plans are reviewed every month to help ensure any changes in need are met. We also looked at two staff files and they contained evidence to show that people are not employed in the home until appropriate checks are carried out. The training records showed that staff are provided with good training to help them carry out their roles effectively. The staff on duty confirmed they are provided with appropriate training. There is a complaints procedure in place and two people living in the home and a visitor said they knew how to make a complaint. A wide range of activites are provided for people living in the home. These include spiritual services, quizes, discussion groups, games, exercises, entertainers, craft sessions, gardening etc. The home also invite people to give talks about subjects which people find interesting. People recently enjoyed a talk from a local fisherman and a police officer. As representative from the fire brigade is due to visit soon to highlight fire safety procedures. People also enjoy visiting the local shops, cafes, theatre, tea dances etc. A computer is also provided with a web cam to support people to keep in touch with family and friends. The premises are clean, comfortable and pleasantly decorated. The garden is very well maintained and a summerhouse has recently been erected for people to enjoy. Regular meetings are held for people living in the home and their relatives to discuss the day to day running of the home. Menus are varied and nutritious. People living in the home and a visitor said the food was very good and plenty of choice is provided. What the care home does well: The atmosphere in the home was relaxed and friendly.
