Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. 9 surveys out of 10 sent out returned to us by people using the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? Date of the last key inspection: 2nd March 2009 The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. Our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA states that the home has recently completed a building extension to replace the annexe, which is an increase in beds from 40 to 45. The replacement of the annexe will enhance the accommodation for the people who live there. We received comments from nine surveys from people living in the home, and eight people said that they receive the care and support that they need and that staff are available when they need them. One person said that they sometimes receive the care and support that they need and that staff are sometimes available when they need them. Comments include: The carers are excellent. They are kind, very caring and helpful, and nothing is too much trouble. Relatives and visitors are always made welcome. A relative had assisted to fill in one of the surveys and made the comment, Regular carers know my mum well and know her personality and needs. Eight out of ten people said that they either always or usually liked the meals at the home and that they were offered variety and choice and two people said that they Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 sometimes liked the meals. Comments include: The food is very good. Eight out of nine people said that the activities the home arranges they can take part in if they want, and one person did not make a comment. When asked what the home does well people made the comments My mother tells me she is very well taken care of, and I can see she is. The staff are brilliant, patient, caring and they are very friendly and helpful to relatives and friends. Pretty good with the outings they have for residents. When asked what the home could do better, one person said, The staff do the best within their means. The AQAA states that resident meetings are held every 2 months and that the agenda covers meals, activities and developments within the home. As a result of listening to people the service have reviewed and updated the menu, people elected to hold the residents meeting every two months and have more in house activities rather than outings. The service has received two complaints in the last year, one of which was resolved within 28 days, and the second one is still under investigation. People using the service said that there was someone who they could speak to informally if they were not happy and that they knew how to make a formal complaint. The home referred one incident themselves to the local authority as a safeguarding alert and it was fully investigated. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They have also shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The completion of the Annual Service Review has not changed our view of the quality rating of this service therefore we are not planning to inspect this service before October 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
