What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. - Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. - Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. - What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. - Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and they know what further improvements they need to make. A detailed assessment is carried out to make sure that peoples needs can be met at Fox View before they move in. People are provided with information about the service and invited to visit to meet other people living and working there and to view the accommodation. Two people who returned surveys said they were asked if they wanted to move into the home and they told us they were given information about the service. In the AQAA they told us We provide a comprehensive client guide and Statement of Purpose. The Statement of Purpose is also in a talking book format. New clients undergo a full assessment of need involving themselves and all significant others to ensure Fox View is the correct placement. Visits to the home are always supported and encouraged. Everyone has a person centred plan which sets our their individual needs. The plan tells staff what action they must take to make sure people receive the care and support they require. Plans are regularly evaluated and updated whenever there is a change in need. In their surveys, staff confirmed that they always have up to date information about the needs of the people they care for. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 In the AQAA they said Person Centred Planning ensures we support people to achieve their goals and aspirations. Each person has a named nurse who assesses their healthcare needs and sets up an action plan to make sure people have contact with the services they require. All clients are registered with a local GP and dental services and access other services to meet their needs eg. Neurology, physiotherapy etc. They also told us All clients are treated with dignity and respected at all times. Clients have aids and equipment to maintain independence. Interagency/professional expertise is accessed frequently and encouraged. St Annes has a clear procedure for dealing with complaints and for making sure that people in their care are safe and protected. All staff receive training about their duty to protect people and to report poor practice. People living at the home and their families are given copies of the complaints procedure and resident and relative meetings are held where people can raise any concerns they may have. We have not received any complaints about the service. The home is well maintained and provides a comfortable, homely environment. This is what they said in the AQAA : Bedrooms are individualised and kept clean and tidy. Adaptations are in place to support individual need. Sufficient bathrooms and toilets are available and kept clean and tidy. Cleaning schedules are in place. The home is secure and safe with a large private garden. The home has level access and is level inside. Policies are in place for food hygiene, infection control and Health and safety. All staff are aware and adhere to them. Fox View follows Department of Health guidelines on Essential Steps to Safe, Clean, Care. The home is appropriately staffed to meet the needs of the people living there. Staff recruitment is thorough; everyone is properly checked before they start work at the home. According to the AQAA, all new staff receive a detailed induction before they start work and all staff receive regular supervision and an annual appraisal. The home is well managed, and there are appropriate quality assurance and monitoring systems in place that ensure that peoples health, safety and welfare is promoted and protected. In the surveys we asked people to tell us what the home does well. These are some of the comments we recieved: Fox View staff have done an excellent job with my client. They went out of their way to obtain advice and training. They have been very thorough, very committed and have provided excellent care Respects and treats people as individuals.
