What the care home does well Each person living at the home has their own care plan and record of their care. This is based around the organisations assessment and care planning documentation. The record we looked at showed that a full assessment and introductory process had been completed before the person moved in. This included visits to the home to meet people and make sure it was the right place for the person to live. All five people who returned our surveys told us that they had been involved in the decision to move into Hookstone Chase and had been provided with enough information to help them make that decision. We looked at people`s care records which showed that people take part in lots of different activities and events. People enjoy activities such as horse riding,swimming,open country,mini bus outings such as to a garden center for coffee. Holidays have been booked to Wales and the Lake District. People also have the opportunity to attend various courses at Harrogate College.The care record we looked at also showed that people have involvement from other health professionals, such as their dentist, optician and doctors. The medication storage arrangements and recording we looked at showed us that medication is being managed safely by the home. There have been no recent complaints or safeguarding incidents at the home. Staff we spoke to had received safeguarding training and knew how to report any concerns. Five people who live at the home and returned a survey said there was someone they could speak to if they were unhappy and said that they knew how to make a formal complaint.People we spoke to during our visit also told us that the staff were approachable and they could raise any problems if they needed to. All five people who returned surveys told us that the home is `always` kept fresh and clean. During our visit it was clean and tidy and provided people with a homely and comfortable place to live. Some people showed us their bedrooms, which were individually decorated and nice places for them to spend time in. People spoken to on the day made comments such as "Everything is ok,things are still good,I like it here." and "I`m ok, I like living here." People also made comments in surveys returned to us. When asked what does the home do well? They said, "The home is nice, I am supported well." "I am happy living at 66 Hookstone Chase." "The staffalways look after me and are very kind and helpful." We also received surveys from staff that were positive. When asked what does the home do well they said, "When service users come home around 4.00pm they are served with tea,coffee or squash and sit around the large dining table and discuss their day,their ups and downs with the staff and each other." "The service users prepare their evening meals with staff support if needed. On Sunday the staff prepare a Sunday roast and everyone enjoys a family meal in a family atmosphere." "I receive very good support from all of the staff team. Meet the individual needs of each service user. Provides an excellent work and leisure balance for 66 Hookstone Chase service users." "It is a pleasure to be a member of staff at 66 Hookstone Chase long may it continue." "The home manager is extremely approachable,it is a pleasure to work at 66 Hookstone Chase." What the care home could do better: We feel that Hookstone Chase continues to provide good and excellent outcomes for the people who live there and we have made no new requirements or recommendations as a result of this random inspection. The home is a detached dormer bungalow situated on a main road close to a retail park and other local facilities. There is a garden to the rear of the

At the last inspection carried out on the 14th June 2007 the weekly fees ranged from £683.00 to £863.80 and did not include costs for leisure, hairdressing, chiropody treatment, toiletries, activities and transport. This was an unannounced inspection of the care home at 66 Hookstone Chase. The visit was completed on 15th April 2010 by one inspector. The homes staff and the people living there did not know that we were going to visit on this day. During our visit we looked at a selection of records, looked round some parts of the building and talked to some of the people who live at the home and the staff who work there.Before our visit we looked at all of the information we had about the service and asked the home to complete an annual quality assurance assessment. This is a selfassessment that tells us about the home. We also sent out surveys to people who live and work at the home. Five people who live at the home and four staff completed and returned surveys to us. We used all of this information to plan our inspection visit and have included it in this report where appropriate. What the care home does well:
