Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review:
What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received and asked for, since the last key inspection of 20th March 2008. We looked at their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA); this is their own assessment of how they are doing, that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. We looked at surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. We looked at how the service has managed any complaints. We looked at what the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; notifications that are a legal requirement. We also looked at our last report on the service, relevant information from other organisations and what other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us most the information we asked for. Miss Malone told us what had been done as a result of listening to people: new peoples family are asked to put clothing on laundry and a named member of staff is responsible for laundry each day. Miss Malone planned to provide training for staff in providing activities. More armchair activities are now provided. The homes pre-admission assessment forms now promote equality and diversity. Care plans are being improved. There are plans to upgrade a bathroom. A new boiler has been installed and the access to the lift improved. The gardens have been made more secure and have been landscaped. Miss Malone plans to provide more specialist training in mental health. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. People living in the home always tell us that they are happy there. One comment was [Does well] More or less everything. Another person told us takes care of us. Fresh flowers would be nice every now and them. A further person told us room always kept clean, bedding always clean. Everyone is very kind and helpful. Another person told us I feel confident about the homes ability to care for me. My room is always clean as are the windows. Have made some solid relationships and am happy here. Dont want to leave. We received comments from relatives of people living in the home. All continue to be very satisfied with the quality of the care. One comment was friendly staff, they are ready to engage with residents in conversation and are courteous, also to visitors. This is very important, as other residents do not necessarily engage in this way. I have been very happy with the care at Inwood House. Another relative told us kind, caring. Anyone who has had to look after my mother and handles her so well deserves the highest praise. Nothing is too much trouble. A further relative told us staff at all levels are available and muck in. Friendly atmosphere, family feeling. A member of staff told us If any concerns are raised the problem is resolved normally Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 within a few hours. It is a pleasure to call myself part of a caring team. Sometimes more staff are needed when there is a difficult resident. Another member of staff told us the care manager is always available to answer any questions or queries. We all do our very best but there is not always enough time. I dont think any home has enough time. A healthcare professional told us what the home does well Liaises with mental health team appropriately. Promotes a caring environment for patient care. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Subject to any changes in registration and inspection practice following implementation of the Health and Social Care Act 2008, our current plan is to do a key inspection by 20th March 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
