What the care home does well Medication records were well kept ensuring that individual health needs are well supported in the home. The service provides respite for its guests and individuals may bring their medication with them. If they so wish the staff look after and administer their medication for them. The systems used to make sure the medication was safely managed were robust. Staff showed a good understanding of how the different medications are booked in and checked daily before being discharged to the individual when they return to their own home. The medication record keeping and storage were well managed and the staff confirmed that they had completed training in the administration of medication. Incidents and accidents records for one individual were reviewed. These records were complete and clearly monitored by management. This is important to make sure that individuals are cared for in the right way and accidents minimised. The service has appointed a new manager for the home. The manager has been in post for 4 weeks and is presently applying for registration with the CQC (Care Quality Commission). The staff told us that they felt well supported by the management of the home and that the organisation was very positive to work in. They have regular supervision and team meetings but also feel that the management of the service is always open and that they can raise concerns at anytime. What the care home could do better: There were no areas that required improvement from this visit. The service provided is consistently well managed.
