We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA in good time and this gave us detailed information about how they have ensured that the quality of care and support has been reviewed and improved. The home knows what areas they need to improve on and continue to provide excellent quality outcomes for people living at the home. They say that the improvements they have made in the last 12 months include a number of areas and that some of these improvements have been the result of reviewing the quality of care with those who use the service. Their AQAA states We have developed our training and access to training for all our staff both care and ancillary. Our welcome pack has been developed to include more providers of services that our residents may be interested in using. Nutritional assessments have help identify those at risk and have been used for all residents. We have developed and used to great effect the Liverpool care plan for death and dying. We have improved the home and the grounds and gardens with ongoing refurbishment and renewals. Policies and procedures have been reviewed to ensure the health safety and wellbeing of all residents and staff. As part of the ASR process we sent surveys to the people who live at the home and we received 7 out of 10 back. Overall the comments were very positive and included Nice pleasant surroundings and caring staff. Kenwith Castle is an exceptionally beautiful place.... They look after me well Good care and nice rooms.Excellent cleaning of all areas. One relative stated The home provides what is needed and she likes the food and the staff. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 25th March 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
