What the care home does well The service understands the needs of the people that use the service. The staff are only recruited to work at the home after they have been thoroughly checked to make sure that they are safe to work with people. The staff receive the training and supervision that they need to make sure that they have the right skills and knowledge to safely care for the people that they are responsible for. What the care home could do better: The care plans are beginning to become very clear and show how individuals want to be supported when they are at the service. This should be continued to make sure that every care file includes all of this clear information. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: Ladycroft Respite Service currently has a rating of a 3* star excellent service through the Commission. We have not received any information since the last inspection of the service that would make the Commission think that this rating was not accurate. The Commission made a random inspection to the service to make sure that they were still safe guarding the needs of the people that use the service. We looked at the complaints and safe guarding records that were held by the service. There had been no complaints recorded at the home since 2005, and no referrals had been made to the local safe guarding adults team. Since the last inspection of the service the Commission have not directly received any complaints in relation to the service. Staff records were also observed by the Commission and these supported the evidence that staff are only employed to work at the home after the appropriate safety vetting has been completed. This included criminal records checks (CRB) and references. The staff records also showed that they receive good training and supervision to make sure that they can safely care for the needs of the people that use the service. Some service user care plans were also sampled by the Commission. These are developing well to show how people want to be supported with their individual needs. They demonstrated that they are person centred and therefore are better to support peoples needs in a safe and satisfactory manner. Before the site visit took place fifteen completed surveys were returned to the Commission. Four surveys were returned by people that use the service or their representatives, eight were returned by staff that work at the home and four surveys were returned form social and health care professionals that have contact with the service. The surveys returned by people that use the service were very positive in relation to the care that they receive at the home. One person said that the service the service will ..ask questions, they listen to you and this has been really appreciated. None of these surveys identified any improvements needed for the service. The staff surveys were also very positive one stated that the service gives every individual a good and enjoyable life, from personal care to everyday activities, and stated that the service could not improve saving everything is done properly and meets very high standards. Another member of staff commented that the home provides a good service to guests, by way of choice, respect, dignity and privacy. another member of staff said Ladycroft has excellent manager and staff team who care and work hard to support guests and their families..it is a pleasure to work in such a service. The remainder of the staff surveys included very similar comments. The surveys that were returned form outside professionals were also very positive in relation to the services provided through Ladycroft. One person stated that the service is always receptive to ideas, approachable and works well with other agencies. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 4 of 8 These surveys help to support the other evidence that Ladycroft safe guards the people that use the service from harm. During the site visit only one service user was available to speak to the Commission. They indicated that they were happy with the care that they received at the home and that they were safe there.
