Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. We got good information from the AQAA. It was very detailed with clear evidence of how the home has worked to improve since the last key inspection. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. People living in the home always tell us they are happy there. They are particularly pleased with the quality of care they get, the food and the activities they are able to do. One comment was individuality is listened to and provided for. Another comment told us the home is clean and tidy with music and games to do. Another comment said continuity of staffing is good and they work hard to provide an excellent and caring atmosphere for residents. There were no comments received that we are concerned about. In the AQAA we are told We endeavour to promote a culture without discrimination on any grounds, and work hard in trying to ensure that individual differences and requirements can be accommodated in the communal setting. We are also told Care is modified in response to changes in residents conditions. However the management recognises that some staff need to give the frailer residents more time during care tasks. We received comments from four members of staff who work at the home. They told us the home is a good place to work and communication systems are good, ensuring that they receive up to date information about the care needs of the residents. This Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 means that residents receive individual care as they wish. One comment told us a friendly place to work where residents are well cared for and staff support each other. Another comment told us a very caring home with a number of staff staying a long time and providing a high standard of care with a good activities programme. Comments for improvement were more assertive management of staff to ensure a more even workload and there are several staff whose first language is not English and this can sometimes lead to misunderstandings. In the AQAA we are told all statutory requirements are being met however it does not contain evidence to demonstrate that all the requirements from the last key inspection have been met. We are told the provider plans Redecoration of the external areas of the home in the next 12 months. This is outstanding requirement from last year. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection, and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 25th February 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
