We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included:The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service, the staff and health care professionals. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. The home told us that they produce a care and health assessment profile for everyone who is admitted to the home. Person centred care plans are then developed to help ensure individual needs are met. Person centred care training is provided for the staff and the manager felt this was proving effective in raising awareness of equality and diversity issues. The home employs an experienced personal activities leader. Life histories have been completed for each person living in the home which provide information on their previous lifestyles. This information can then be used to provide appropriate activities. An activities programme is in place which is discussed on a regular basis. The chef speaks to the people living in the home to find out their favourite dishes so these can be included in the menus. The home seeks the views of the people living in the home and their relatives by issuing surveys, feedback leaflets and holding regular meetings to discuss the day to day running of the home. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 The home told us that they had not received any complaints in the last twelve months but a robust procedure is in place if someone had the need to complain.. A programme is in place to redecorate all bedrooms and provide them with new flooring. Five surveys were returned by the people living in the home. They all said they knew who to speak to if they were unhappy and knew how to make a formal complaint. Four people said they always received the care and support they needed and one said they usually did. When asked what the home does well, comments from the surveys included:Medical care, lovely gardens, good community spirit. Comfort and cleanliness are good. Care staff are helpful and friendly. Food and meals are good. Medical attention is very good. Access for family and friends is excellent. Visitors are made to feel very welcome. Social activities are consistent and appropriate. Northlea Court provides all the care and help people require. Now some improvements have been made to the rooms when completed will be top notch. When asked what the home could do better the following comments were received:Some parts need redecorating. Having all the rooms redecorated. Three surveys were returned by health care professionals. Comments included:The service provides an excellent provision. The staff are very good and the establishment is well managed. I feel that staff are always looking for ways to improve and personalise their clients care and meet their needs fully. Eight surveys were returned by the staff. These were very positive and confirmed that they received training that was appropriate for their role. Two people felt it would be nice to have more staff so more outings could be provided. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Our judgement is that the home continues to provide a good service, and they have clear strategies in place to improve and develop the service further. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 We shall continue to remain in contact with the service. However we can still inspect the service at any time, and shall do if we have any concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 15th January 2012.
