Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. We got good information from the AQAA. It was very detailed with clear evidence of how the home has worked to improve since the last key inspection. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. People living in the home always tell us they are happy there. They are particularly pleased with the quality of the food they get and the activities they are able to do. One comment was polite and helpful staff who treat the residents as valuable people. Another comment told us there is a constant attempt to ensure residents are happy. safe and well cared for. Another comment said they provide very good personal care and are always available to listen to residents and families. We are also told the fabric and furnishings are well maintained. Comments for improvement were sort out laundry returns as things go missing. In the AQAA we are told the home is actively seeking a new laundry person to address the issues. Another comment for improvement was to provide better facilities for the receipt of telephone calls for residents who do not have their own telephone. While this has not been specifically addressed in the AQAA we are told everyone is treated as an individual and we seek to meet their needs. We received comments from four members of staff who work at the home. They told us the home is a good place to work and communication systems are good in the main, Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 although it could be improved at the start of shifts, ensuring that they receive up to date information about the care needs of the residents. This means that residents receive individual care as they wish. One comment told us we receive good management support with regular training and staff meetings. Another told us care needs of the residents and their preferences are always responded to and met as well as possible. Another comment told us the activities and food are good. In the AQAA we are told there is a high level of activities provided. We are using a key person system for some individual activities and we hope to tailor make some activities programmes to encourage participation from all residents. We are also told there are good links to the local community to enable residents to feel part of the wider community for their health and well being. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection, and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 12th December 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
