What the care home does well There were one requirement made at the last key inspection and two at the last random inspection. We saw that these requirements had been met. Copies of the provider`s monthly visit reports are available in the home. Evidence was seen to confirm that complaints are now reponded to, following the home`s own policies and procedures. Accurate records are now kept with regard to people`s personal allowances and receipts are given as appropriate. The manager told us that all of the people who live at the home have a personal care plan which informs the staff how they can support them and meet their needs. We looked at a sample of these during the course of the inspection. We found that they provide basic details for staff about how to look after people who live in the home. We looked at the medication. We found that the home have policies and procedures in place. Staff who give medications are trained to do so. People said that the activities are varied and that they are tailored to individual preferences. We observed the lunch. People confirmed that the food is good and that they are given a choice. Staff who were assisting people were doing so in a discreet manner. The home has a complaints procedure in place and would respond to any complaints quickly. This means that any problems are resolved and people are satisfied with the outcome. Evidence was seen since the last Inspection that complaints are now documented appropriately. Staff and people spoken with told us that that there are sufficient staff employed at the home and they have been trained in how to keep the people they care for safe. They saidthat the staff have knowledge about the homes procedures, why they are in place and what they are for. Some staff have vocational qualifications and there was evidence in staff files to confirm that some staff training has taken place. Whilst staff told us that they had completed all of the mandatory training, there was no training matrix available to confirm this. We looked at the recruitment records for some recently appointed staff. All staff need to complete an induction programme. The current induction programme needs to be more comprehensive. Staff and the people spoken with confirmed that the manager is approachable and that they can approach her if they have a problem or concern. Appropriate systems are in place for quality assurance. The management company company and the manager carry out regular audits. Regular meetings take place for staff, the people who live in the home and relatives. The maintenance certificates seen were up to date, as were the regular safety checks. What the care home could do better: The care plans would benefit from further expansion so that they are person centred. Evidence should also be available to confirm that the people who live in the home have been consulted with regard to their care and have agreed to their plans. When people are on some forms of medication, a risk assessment and care plan should be available to out line the specific risks with regard to that medication, for example Warfarin. All staff need to complete an induction programme, which is comprehensive and covers all aspects of the work that they undertake. A training matrix should be available to confirm that staff have completed mandatory training at the required intervals, so that any gaps can be quickly identified. Random inspection report

This unannounced inspection of this home took place on the 13 July 2010. Before the visit we looked at information we have received since the last visit, how the service dealt with any complaints and concerns since the last visit and any changes to how the home is run. During the visit we talked with people who use the service and staff. We looked at information about the people and how well their needs are met. We looked at other records which must be kept, checked that staff had the knowledge, skills and training to meet the needs of the people they care for, looked around the building to make sure it was clean, safe and comfortable, and checked what improvements had been made since the last visit. We told the deputy manager what we found. We have reviewed our practice when making requirements, to improve national consistency. Some requirements from previous inspection reports may have been deleted or carried forward into this report as recommendations but only when it is considered that people who use services are not being put at significant risk of harm. In future, if a requirement is repeated, it is likely that enforcement action will be taken. What the care home does well:
