What the care home does well The home writes down how people are to be helped and make sure that they are always included in deciding how they are going to be helped. The home think it is very important to make sure that people are treated with dignity and their privacy is respected. People are helped to choose lots of interesting activities to do during the day, so that they do not get bored and can enjoy their lives. The home make sure that people are helped to go to the Dr, the nurse or the hospital so that they can stay as fit and healthy as possible. If people need to stay in hospital the home make sure that someone stays with them so that they do not feel scared or uncomfortable. The home makes sure that people know how to complain if they are not happy. They listen to what people say and do what they can to make peoples` lives better. The home is clean and fresh and staff know how to keep it safe from germs, so that people do not become ill. The home has plenty of staff so that people are helped properly and they can do what they choose to do during the day. The home makes sure that staff have good training so that they can offer the best possible care to people who live in the home. Two of the service users live in a flat that is linked to the main house. Several service users also suffer mental health problems and present challenging behaviour. The aims and objectives of the home are to provide a secure and comfortable home, encourage and support residents to make decisions and choices in their lives, support and assist service users to make and maintain satisfying relationships, assist service users to develop their skills and enable service users to engage in valued day time

We found that the home has maintained its high standards of care. The last inspection on this service was completed on the 3rd of May 2007. This is a report for the random inspection, which included a routine unannounced site visit to the service. This took place between 10:00 m and 3:00pm on the the 29th April 2010. The information was collected from an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment, a document sent to the service from the Care Quality Commission and completed by the registered manager, Sue Ravey. Discussions with people who live in the home and the the acting manager took place. The registered manager is currently on secondment and the home is being managed by the acting manager, with the registered manager overseeing the service. Limited observation of people and their interactions with staff took place during the visit to the home. Reviewing records of the people who use the service and other records and procedures was also used to collect information on the day of the visit. All information received by the Commission since the last inspection, about this service was also taken into account when producing this inspection report.
