Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. 1. We asked the service to send us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. 2. We looked at information about how the service had managed any complaints.# 3. We looked at what the service had told us about things that are happening in the home. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. 4. We looked at the previous key inspection and the results of any visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. 5. We looked at relevant information from other organisations and what other people have told us about this service. What has this told us about the service? The service has sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It has been comprehensively completed and it is clear that this service knows what improvements are needed. For example care plans have been reviewed so that these are more person centred and to ensure that people can make decisions about how their personal and healthcare needs are met. The service have consulted with people living here and have further developed activities to be more person centred. For example, some people help with cleaning in the home and some are growing their own vegetables. And people are supported to go out shopping with a carer, so that they can choose for example their own clothes and toiletries. The service reports that they continue to improve the environment to enhance peoples comfort and safety. This includes redecoration, ordering new lounge furniture and purchasing new TVs for all bedrooms. In addition the service is pursuing an application with the local council to build a conservatory. The home employs 12 care staff of whom 6 hold a National Vocational Qualification in care to level 2 or above. In addition 1 member of staff is working towards this qualification. If this person is successful the home will have over 50 of staff who hold this qualification, which will be above the government recommendation. Neither we, the commission, or the service have received any complaints or concerns. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We will carry out an unannounced key inspection, as already planned, by May 2010. We will inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of this service or the safety of the people using this service.
