Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home appears to be still providing an good service and that they know some further improvements they need to make. The service recognises how they could improve and has plans to develop the service further. The AQAA told us how the views of people using the service are used to make changes to the service provided. The AQAA told us that they had made the following improvements as a result of listening to people using the service Had new TV aerial system installed to improve reception and make more channels available. Moved furniture in service users rooms to suit their wishes. Purchased a parasol for the garden area for residents and relatives use. Tidied up and improved garden areas, front and back. Made front of home more private by putting a gate on the pedestrian access to the home and chain fencing to improve privacy and restrict cars from parking in front of residents windows. Altered several aspects of the menu. We received comments from people living in the home. Some of the surveys had been completed with the assistance of relatives. Comments were very positive about the service people at the home received and the kindness of the staff. They told us that the home, Always do what they can to meet my needs, The staff are all caring, always friendly and look after me, The nursing home is spotlessly clean and meals are excellent. The home is organised, flexible, well managed, nice food, everyone cares for residents conscientiously, entertainment is well appreciated and enthusiastically arranged and nursing matters such as medication are sympathetically explained. If my relative is unwell they always call in the doctor and inform me as well which I find very good. We received surveys from people who visit the home to provide a service. They all spoke in positive terms about the home and told us Rose cottage provides excellent care with their residents, residents are well looked after, first class care given, food Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 excellent and staff are very good. We also received surveys from staff who work at the home. They all told us that the home is a Very friendly home, treats the residents as individual needs very well. We did receive three comments from staff saying that sometimes more staff made available would be helpful. We receive regular and detailed Regulation 37 notifications from the service to update us on areas within the scope of notification. The home has told us that there have been no complaints made to them since the last key inspection and no concerns have been raised with CQC about this service. The last key inspection took place on 19th November 2008 , no other inspections or visits to the home have taken place in the interim period. At the key inspection, one statutory requirement was made about the safe storage of medications. we have since then received prompt correspondence from the home to confirm that this requirement has been met. The home continues to work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will do a key inspection by 18th November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
