What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the previous inspection report and the information sent to us by the service providers and in particular the AQAA (Annual Quality Assurance Assessment). We looked at the service history and discussed the services with the Care Manager. We also considered the Care Quality Commission satisfaction surveys sent back from people living in the home. What has this told us about the service? To make sure the service can meet peoples personal care and support needs these are assessed before coming to live in the home. Records show the assessments are very comprehensive and include any identifying any risks to people wanting to use the service. To make sure peoples needs are met there are Person Centered Plans that are reviewed regularly to make sure they get the support they need and require to keep them safe. The records and discussion with the Care Manager shows the service continues to provide a 24 hour needs led service. Peoples choices and preferences are identified through their person centered plans and care and support is based on peoples needs. The records show that people are supported and encouraged to use ordinary community based health care and leisure services. The care manager confirmed that people continue to be encouraged and supported to do as much for themselves as possible and there is an emphasis on maintaining and promoting peoples Independence. The care manager also says that the service is looking to become part of Alternative Cares Domiciliary Supported Living Service. People living in the home are protected by the way staff are recruited and selected as records show Police and POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adult list) and references continue to be taken up before they are employed. People are Safeguarded against abuse as records show, and the Care Manager confirmed that, support workers attend Safeguarding training, and there is a Safeguarding Policy and Procedure for them to follow that reflects Wakefield Councils Safeguarding Protocols. People continue to be protected by the way their medicines are dealt with and the acting manager confirmed that staff continue to have training in how to administer medicines safely. Records show people continue to attend various activities throughout the day and are supported to enjoy holidays and outings of their choice throughout the year. Records show people participate in shopping for food and the setting of their own menus. The records show there have been no complaints received about the service and the quality of the care and support it provides. The service continues to have a good relationship with the Commission and reports any event that effects the wellbeing of people using the service.
