What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. - Surveys returned to us by people who work at the service. - What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. Much of the content was the same as last years AQAA but where improvements or progress had been made this was appropriately noted. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. A requirement was made following the last inspection that the plans for care for the people living at Santa Maria must be kept up to date. The AQAA stated that these plans had all been reviewed and this was confirmed in a conversation with the manager. The home has made improvements to the garden since the last inspection which include the addition of a vegetable patch and the people who live there have been supported to grow their own vegetables. One person had been on holiday this year at the time of submitting the AQAA and holidays had been planned with the other two people who live there. The communal areas of the home had been re-decorated and some new furniture had been purchased. We did not receive any surveys from people who live at the home. These people would not be able to complete surveys without support. We did receive four surveys from people who work at the home. These told us that they always have up to date information about the needs of the people they support and that they receive appropriate training that is relevant to their role. The manager who was in post at our previous inspection submitted an application to be registered with us but then left. The current manager is also the area manager and has commenced the process to register with us. The home knows that it needs to keep in contact with us and is now sorting out the position of registered manager. They are now working well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 30th September 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
