This random inspection was carried out on the 21st June 2010 and took approximately two hours. The purpose of our visit was to maintain our awareness of the service. The inspection was carried out by one inspector, however the term We is used to reflect the findings of the Care Quality Commission. The Registered Manager was on hand throughout our stay to aid the inspection process. All staff made us welcome and were extremely helpful. We toured the premises, spoke with people at the home, reviewed a variety of care documentation; the homes Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA); staffing and training records. The standard of care documentation was good and provided staff with an appropriate level of information so that they were able to meet the needs of people living at the home. People told us they were happy with the care they received. We saw staff carrying out their duties in a cheerful and professional manner. We were shown the training records and staff confirmed that they had received all the mandatory training. In addition recent training had also included such topics as end of life care; venepuncture and catheterisation. This training had helped equip the staff with the skills they need to provide a good level of care. Staff told us that they were encouraged to take up training opportunities. We reviewed the personnel files for three new members of staff and found that recruitment processes were robust, which meant that only suitable staff were employed to work in the home and residents were well protected.
