Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at information that we have received and requested since the last inspection. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) was sent out to the home and was completed and returned to CQC in a timely fashion. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys were sent out to people who use the service, and other interested parties, to seek their views on the quality of the service provided. We received 8 completed surveys from people living at the home, 6 from staff and 3 from health and social care professionals. The service makes contact with the CQC if they have any concerns or wish to share information. What has this told us about the service? The AQAA was completed to a high standard demonstrating that the home, listens to the views of people who live there, and has a commitment to ongoing improvement. The home has their own quality assurance systems in place which include satisfaction surveys and meetings for people living and working at the home, as well as care audits. As a result of listening to people the home has made changes in line with expressed wishes. These include changes to the menu, redecoration of some areas, providing a regular coffee morning and arranging a meeting with the local MP. The AQAA also states that there is an ongoing programme of refurbishment. The AQAA states that anyone wishing to move into the home has their needs assessed to make sure that it is the right place for them. Everyone who completed a questionnaire said that they received enough information about the home before they moved in. On admission a detailed care plan is completed with the the person and/or their representative. This is reviewed monthly to ensure that any changes to health, well being or wishes are addressed. 7 people answered ALWAYS and 1 person answered USUALLY to the question Do you receive the care and support that you need? Everyone answered ALWAYS to the question Does the home make sure that you receive the medical support that you need? The staff who completed questionnaires all felt that their induction training covered everything they needed to know very well and that they received ongoing training that was relevant to their job. The AQAA states that 83 of care staff have a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in care at level 2 or above. Comments about staff from people living at the home included Staff are helpful, good humoured and supportive, Very friendly staff and Staff are open and welcome contact with relatives. One Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 health and social care professional wrote Staff always seem kind, helpful and professional. To minimise the risk of abuse to people who live at the home staff recruitment is robust. All staff, who responded to questionnaires, said that the employer had carried out checks such as obtaining written references and undertaking a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check before they began work at the home. The AQAA states that the complaints procedure is given to everyone when they move into the home and is prominently displayed. Everyone said that they knew who to speak to informally if they were unhappy and how to make a formal complaint. All staff said that they knew what to do if someone expressed concerns about the home. One person wrote Issues are picked up quickly and well handled. In the last 12 months one complaint has been made and this was addressed within the homes agreed timescales. The AQAA demonstrates that the home is committed to providing a high standard of care and support. People living there were happy with the care that they received. One person commented The staff work hard to maintain a family, informal setting which cares for residents and supports each person individually. A member of staff said We work as a team to ensure that residents and staff are happy and enjoy each day to the maximum. All information received gives evidence that the home continues to provide an excellent service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
