Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the home. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people living in the home. It also gave us some numerical information about the home. We sent surveys to the service for people and staff. Information we have about how the home has managed any complaints. What the home has told us about things that have happened. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report and the results of any other visits that we have made to the home in the last 12 months. What other people have told us about the home. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. The home told us in the AQAA about its strengths in different areas and what they do well. This includes obtaining the views of people who use the service. People are able to express their views during residents meetings, at their 6 monthly review of their care, by using the yearly annual quality assurance survey or by speaking to the staff at anytime. The AQAA states that as a result of the feedback they have received from people they have increased the range of activities and now have a volunteer that assists the activities coordinator. We have not received any complaints in the last 12 months about the service and the AQAA states the home has also not received any complaints. We asked people in the surveys is there someone you can speak to informally if you are not happy, 7 people said yes 2 people said no and one person did not answer the question. We also asked do you know how to make a formal complaint, 3 people said yes, 6 people said no and one person did not answer the question. We received 10 surveys back from people who use the service and 6 from staff. We asked people in the surveys, do you receive the care and support you need, 6 people said alway, three people said usually and one person said sometimes. We also asked are the staff available when you need them, 5 people said always, 3 people said usually and 2 people said sometimes. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 We asked people does the home arrange activities that you can take part in if you want to, 3 people said always, 5 people said usually, one person said sometimes and one person did not answer the question. We received mixed feedback about the meals in the home. We asked people what the home does well and comments we received include; Provide meals Friendly staff We also asked what could the home do better and comments include; More staff needed Listen more to clients and have more time for them. The staff surveys showed that they enjoy working at the home and they are able to undertake training relevant to their roles, as 5 of the 6 staff in their surveys said yes. We also asked are there enough staff to meet the individual needs of all people who use the service, 5 staff said usually and 1 member of staff said never. We asked the staff what does the home do well and the comments we received include; Take care of our residents individual needs as much as is practically possible I believe that the home runs very well because of good management The home is very friendly to families and visitors who often remark on this fact Residential care here is very good and staff spend time with residents as as much as they can. We also asked what could the home do better and the comments we received include; Employ more staff to enable them to to spend time with people on a much more regular basis. Staff here are fire fighting with all basic chores that need to be done More staff needed to meet the type of clients that are coming into the home Maybe a bit more up to date decor Better communication is needed from the top down, more staff meetings and better change over on shifts. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Due to the feedback we have received from the surveys we are going to ask the Registered People to write to us and tell us how they intend to address the concerns. We will then decide when the next inspection will take place. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people who use the service.
