Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report and Annual Service Review. Relevant information from other organisations. What people who live at the home, staff and other people have told us in surveys. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It gave us most of the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. However, the manager should undertake further quality assurance or monitoring work to make sure that they know what further improvements they need to make in all of the identified outcome areas. There were no requirements from the last key inspection in September 2007 and no concerns identified in the Annual Service Review in September 2008. We sent surveys to people who live at the home, staff and health and social care professionals. One staff survey and one health professional survey was returned. They were both positive about the experience of working at and with the home and the quality of care provided. The manager told us in the AQAA that they have made the following improvements at the home in the last year: Near completion of orangery. Recording improved in several aspects care plans and staff files. Improved on our variety offered at meal times. Areas which have been of concern in the past within medication procedures, storage and administration have improved. The manager also told us in the AQAA that they have made the following changes as a result of listening to people who use our services: Menu offering more variety. Wider variety of weekly outings. A new wide screen television. The home has made notifications to us about things that happened in the service. Three of these have resulted in referrals to the Police and local authority under adult protection procedures. The home has co-operated fully, made the referrals and taken Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 appropriate action where necessary. We have not received any complaints about the home. The manager told us in the AQAA that they have not received any complaints. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 06/09/10 However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
