Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Four surveys returned to us by people using the service, three completed with help from family. One survey returned to us by a health care professional. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection (January 2008) and annual service review (January 2009) reports. There have been no complaints or issues regarding adult protection, bought to our attention, concerning Spring House. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. For example, they tell us: Our Quality Assurance enables relatives, friends and professionals to give their opinion of the home in a holistic way so that we can continue to develop and improve. These results have been very positive. People speak positively about Spring House; only one person mentioned things which could be improved. Comments include: The special quality of Spring House is the high standard of care and sound management style, balanced with an informality and relaxed atmosphere which it a true home and Good, caring home. Glad my mother is a resident there. Each person who responded to survey told us they received enough information to help them decide if Spring House was the right place for them and that have written information on the homes terms and conditions. Three people told us that always receive the care, support and medical care they need and one said they usually do. A health care professional told us: Spring House is a very caring home. The staff are kind, helpful, respectful of its residents. Clients seem happy and settled and no concerns have been raised. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Three people told us that staff are always available when they need them and one said they usually are. Three people told us that staff always listen to them and act on what they say and one said they sometimes do. Three people told us that the home always arranges activities that they can take part in if they wish and one said it usually does. Two told us that they always like the meals at the home and two said they usually do. All told us that they have someone they can speak to informally if they are not happy and they know how to make a formal complaint. The Commission has received no complaints or concerns about the home, which tells us: We have not received any written complaints to date. Relatives feel that they can call into the office at any time to discuss problems. There was much mention of the friendliness of the home. The registered manager/provider has expressed frustration that the home did not receive the key inspection as initially expected but has instead received another review of the home, from which the rating cannot be changed. We are informed that requirements and recommendation made at the last key inspection were met within the required timescales. For example, the laundry floor was replaced with a new, permeable, non slip, easily cleanable surface, to aid cleanliness and safety. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan. Currently, under the Care Standards Act 2000, we would expect to do a key inspection by 27th January 2011. However, all services will re-register this summer in preperation for the Health and Social Care Act under which compliance will be inspected from October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
