Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by three people using the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear, and gave us a lot of the information we needed to complete our review. We looked at the information in the AQAA, and after speaking to the registered manager, our judgement is that St Bernadettes is still providing a good service for people. We asked the registered manager about what they had done to meet a requirement and some recommendations made at the last key inspection for the service, where this was not explained in the AQAA. The response reassured us that all areas have been addressed. When asked about the home, people who returned their surveys told us The home is a lovely place to stay in and everyones pleasant and nice, St Bernadettes is a cheerful place and willing to help patients for shopping needs. When asked what the home does well, we were told Most things. Treat the poorly well, and Tend to needs of people within their capacity. All agreed that they always receive the care and support that they need, that the staff are available when needed, that they listen and act on what people say, and that they get the medical support that they need. Although one person ticked usually as well. These people also agreed that they know who to speak to informally if they are not happy, and that they know how to make a formal complaint. The home told us they have received two formal complaints in the last twelve months. They told us what has been done to resolve these complaints. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We asked the home to provide the feedback they had received from their most recent satisfaction survey, because we received only three completed surveys from people living at St Bernadettes. Although this was completed a year ago, it gave us more information collected from more people, and professionals, on their views about the home, and what is being done in response to the comments they made. The home will be asking people to complete further surveys in the near future, to check their views about the home again. This shows that the home involves people when deciding what changes they need to make there. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? It is our statutory responsibility to inspect all care services at least once every three years. Therefore we are not planning to inspect this service before 9 December 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service, or the safety of the people using the service.
