Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home appears to be still providing an excellent service and that they know some further improvements they need to make. The service recognises how they could improve and has plans to develop the service further. The AQAA told us how the views of people using the service are used to make changes to the service provided. The AQAA told us that in response to listening to people using the service We have made alterations in one residents room and another one is scheduled in January 2010. The service further plans to implement Suggestions box for residents, family and friends. At this time we have not received any returned surveys. If surveys are returned to us before the report is finalised any comments will be shared with the manager and included in this review. We receive regular and detailed Regulation 37 notifications from the service to update us on areas within the scope of notification. The home has told us that there have been three complaints made to them since the last key inspection, two of which were upheld. One concern has been raised with CQC about this service. This complaint has been addressed by the service and all were addressed within a reasonable timescale. The last key inspection took place on the 16th March 2009 , no other inspections or visits to the home have taken place in the interim period. At the key inspection two good practice recommendations were made. These were that the home should consider developing specific personalised night care plans written by the night staff with the residents. The AQAA told us that the home is planning Introduction of a new care planning system. We will review this at the next key inspection . The other good practice recommendation was that, the home should expand and enhance the quality of the end of life care plans by adopting the Gold Standard guidelines and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 documentation. The AQAA has told us that the service has improved by, Our Palliative care link nurses attend training course conducted by Dorothy House Hospice. They take the lead role in palliative care in our home and they mentor other nurses in the home. The home continues to work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will do a key inspection by 15th march 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
