What the care home does well We were able to speak to staff members about the choices of food on the menu. There are now seasonal menus in place and people are offered choices depending on their tastes and needs. The care plan records we saw were comprehensive and appeared to reflect the current needs and expectations of people living in the home. These included a monitoring sheet completed by staff to ensure these were evaluated regularly. Safe practices appeared to be in place to ensure people receive medication as prescribed to them. A complaints policy is in place and staff appeared to be clear on how this should be used and how to refer cases to the safe guarding adults team should the need arise. There appeared to be sufficient staff on duty to ensure the needs of people can be met at all times. Safety certificates are in place to ensure the equipment is safe to use and the building safe to live and work in. What the care home could do better: Staff would benefit from the daily report sheet being in a format to ensure they can make clear, accurate recordings. The care plan files contain a lot of old information which make it difficult to ascertain peoples current needs. The specific health care needs of individuals were not always clearly described but staff informed us they were investigating a more detailed health passport for people. There were no records of how staff were ensuring that medication is kept at the correct temperature, which could pose a risk to people if items were incorrectly stored. Parts of the building, both inside and outside, are in need of repair to ensure people are living in a comfortable environment suited to their needs. To ensure that correct staff of different grades are on duty at all times staff department and grades should be identified on the duty rota. And what health and social care professionals had told us about their dealings with the home. On the day we spoke to staff members and looked at a number of records and documents as well as having a brief tour of the home.
