What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included the following information. The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Six people living at the home returned their CQC survey, with most people being helped by relatives or friends. They told us that they always received the care and support they need, and that staff are always available to them. People living at the home told us that staff always listen to them and act on what they say. People receive the medical care they need and can take part in activities arranged by the home. According to the surveys, the meals at the home are always to peoples liking, the home is clean and fresh, and people know how to make a formal complaint. People commented that they felt the home made them feel part of a family and that the home looks after everyone. A visitor said that they are always made to feel welcome. Three out of the five staff members completed a CQC survey. They were all positive and enthusiastic about their job. For example, I love the environment. Residents needs are always paramount and the staff are encouraged to spend individual and group time with them. Residents are never made to feel hurried in any aspect of their care and if they should need extra time we all know that less pressing jobs such as cleaning, ironing etc can wait. Another staff member said I have worked in many homes in the past and have never been so pleased and happy to come work as I am at Corners. Staff told us that they were given up to date information, provided with a comprehensive induction, and had access to training that helped them with their role. Staff said that there are enough staff on duty and that they feel well supported by their manager through regular meetings. For example, a staff member said on a personal Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 note I feel really valued as a member of staff, Mrs Newton is very approachable and I would never worry about asking her to explain things in more detail, or voicing a complaint etc. A lovely place to work. Another staff member said staff are trained brilliantly. And management ensure that the care standard is high! We received four responses to our CQC survey from health and social care professionals, they told us that peoples social and health care needs are always met by the home, and the right service is always planned for people. respondents told us that the home always or usually respects peoples privacy and dignity, and that the care service supports people to live the life they choose. They told us that staff have the right skills and experience to support peoples social and health care needs. However, although two professionals said the home always responded appropriately if they raised concerns, a third said usually and a fourth said sometimes. A GP made the comment that it is an excellent home, highly personalised care. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and we will inspect before 22nd November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
