What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: -The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment [AQAA] that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. -What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. -The previous key inspection. -What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home returned the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. This included concise information identifying areas where improvements have been made in the last year and where further developments are either planned or would benefit service users. Our judgement is that the home is still continuing to provide a good service. It is acknowledged that that AQAA was received in April 2009 and that further improvements may also have been made since this date. Some of the improvements noted included: The AQAA told us that the manager has completed the RMA (registered managers award) and is working towards completion of her NVQ (national vocational qualification) at level four. The home now exceeds the requirement to have 50 percent of the staff team trained to NVQ level two in that eighty percent of the staff team have now completed NVQ at level 2 or above and the remaining members of the staff team are working towards this qualification. The company has now introduced six monthly unannounced health and safety and clinical governance inspections. Residents meetings have increased in frequency from every two months to monthly enabling residents to comment on the care they receive and to have a say about the running of their home. Residents, where assessed as appropriate, are more involved in their reviews. It was also reported that the activities co-ordinator has identified interesting outings and activities and that residents have attended various concerts and plays. The redecoration of the building remains ongoing and within the last year emphasis has been placed on redecorating residents bedrooms and the communal areas. New sofas have been purchased for the lounge area. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home has told us that they have not received any complaints. No notifications were received by the Commission from the home over the past year. It is presumed that this has not been necessary as the home has always had a good history of reporting any event that affects the wellbeing of residents. As a result of the last key inspection carried out on 20 June 2008 two requirements were made. Following the inspection the manager confirmed the action that would be taken to address them. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We consider the quality rating of the home remains good since the last key inspection. We will do a key inspection by July 2010 to review our assessment of the home. However, we reserve the right to revisit this decision if additional information is brought to our attention.
