If yes, what have they been: Date of last key inspection: Date of last annual service review (if applicable): Brief description of the service The home is registered with the Care Quality Commission to accommodate up to 29 service users in the category of OP (older people) for personal care including nursing care. It is a purpose built care home, with residents accommodation on the ground and first Annual Service Review Page 2 of 6 Number of places (if applicable): Under 65 Over 65 0 29 1 5 0 1 2 0 0 9 floors, with a passenger lift available to provide step-free access to all registered parts of the premises. There are 21 single and 2 double bedrooms with en-suite hygiene facilities and a further 2 single bedrooms without en-suite facilities. Communal areas include a lounge, conservatory and dining room, hairdressing salon, toilets close to the day areas and bathrooms with assistance equipment for people with impaired mobility. Management offices are on the second floor. Vehicle parking spaces for staff and visitors are at the front and side of the house. There is a secluded patio and garden area to the rear of the premises. Fees are charged weekly; the fee range quoted by the manager at the time of the last key inspection conducted in January 2009, (per person) from £750 per week, with additional costs for Funded Nursing Care. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This was sent out to the home and was completed and returned to the Commission in a timely fashion. The AQAA is a selfassessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Notifications received. These are a legal requirement; the service must tell us about certain things that happen in the service. The previous key inspection undertaken on 15th January 2009. Other correspondence held on file. What has this told us about the service? This told us that the home continue to provide excellent outcomes for people using the service and that procedures are in place to monitor and improve the quality of the service delivered. It told us that the views of people using the service are actively sought and responded to. The AQAA provided us with examples of changes made following suggestions from people using the service. One example included the introduction of a vegetable patch where people are supported to grow vegetables of their choice. The AQAA told us that the home have further improved meetings for relatives by introducing guest speakers to discuss a range of topics. The home also produce a monthly newsletter to keep people using the service and their representatives up to date with events at the home. It told us that people continue to benefit from a stable and effective management team who ensure that staff have the skills and training needed to meet the needs of people using the service. It told us that the home have a strong and stable workforce. It told us that the home inform us of significant events at the home and that they make contact with the Commission as required. The AQAA told us that effective procedures are in place which ensure people are appropriately assessed before a placement at the home is offered. It told us that people are provided with up to date information about the home to enable people to make an informed decision about using the service. It told us that care planning procedures promote a person centred approach to care. The AQAA told us that people have access to a range of health care professionals and that the home have established good working relationships with health care professionals. It told us that procedures are in place to ensure that peoples social care needs are Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 met. The AQAA told us that people are provided with opportunities for social stimulation in line with their needs and preferences. It told us that the home are committed to continuing improvements in this area. It also told us that the home continue to promote choices for people in all aspects of life at the home. It told us that staff have access to a range of up to date policies and procedures and that robust procedures are in place to protect people from the risk of harm or abuse. It told us that appropriate complaints procedures are in place and that the home are proactive in responding to concerns in line with their procedures. The Commission have not received any concerns about the service in the last twelve months. The AQAA told us that up to date procedures are in place to ensure the health and safety of persons at the home. It told us that people live in a comfortable and well maintained environment and that people have access to a range of specialist equipment appropriate to their assessed needs. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection programme. We can however inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or of the safety of people using the service.
