The last Key inspection was on 23rd January 2008 Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received and asked for, since the last key inspection of 23rd January 2008. We looked at their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA); this is their own assessment of how they are doing, that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. We looked at surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. We looked at how the service has managed any complaints. We looked at what the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; notifications that are a legal requirement. We also looked at our last report on the service, relevant information from other organisations and what other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. In the AQAA the home told us that as a result of talking to people, they had redecorated some of the bedrooms and replaced carpets. People who use the service had been consulted about colour schemes. The programme to improve the environment is ongoing with further refurbishment of the hall ways and sitting room. The home told us they had also made improvements to the activity programme and the menus, particularly for those people with a dementia. The menus were now produced with photographs of different meals so that people could choose more easily. The home told us that as a result of talking to staff they were improving communication with each other. This meant more detailed handing over of information when shifts changed and more detailed recording. Members of staff had received training from a consultant specialising in dementia care. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. People living in the home always tell us that they are happy there. They are particularly pleased with the support from members of staff. One comment was I am very happy here. Another person told us All things are done very well. It is home from home. The staff are very caring at all times. A relative commented Everything is fine. We are all very happy with the care mum gets at Woodfalls. A member of staff told us The ongoing training and courses are excellent plus excellent manager and deputy who treat all staff the same. One of the healthcare professionals told us the residents always seem happy and well looked after. The staff are very prompt to call a Dr or community nurse if they have any problems. Another comment was There always seems to be plenty of social activities going on. An accordionist was there on my last visit and theres always a list of up and coming activities and photos and posters of previous ones. Any advice is Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 always gratefully received and acted upon and the residents seem well looked after and seem happy. We received comments from three GPs: Good personal care and attention, Woodfalls is a well run home where residents physical, social and psychological needs are well met by a caring staff and Well run. Well organised. Communal facilities are over crowded. The providers told us we have a large conservatory, a large lounge and a smaller lounge for residents to choose from. Clearly we meet the floor space that is required. The comment may have been made when we were having activities in the conservatory. Both residents and families are happy that there are plenty of activities and we would not want to reduce these. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Subject to any changes in registration and inspection practice following implementation of the Health and Social Care Act 2008, our current plan is to do a key inspection by 23rd January 2011 However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
