Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at information that we have received and requested since the last inspection. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) was sent out to the home and was completed and returned to CQC in a timely fashion. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys were sent out to people who use the service, and other interested parties, to seek their views on the quality of the service provided. We received 4 completed surveys from people who live at the home and 5 from members of staff. The service makes contact with the CQC if they have any concerns or wish to share information. The home has a website www.ambridgeestates.co.uk What has this told us about the service? The AQAA was completed to a good level and demonstrated that there is a commitment to providing a high standard of care and accommodation. Due to the size of the home the manager/provider is able to seek peoples views informally on a daily basis. The AQAA states that in addition to this, questionnaires are distributed monthly to ask opinions on various aspects of the home. The manager also works alongside care staff to provide ongoing supervision and to monitor standards of care. According to the AQAA, since the last inspection the home has purchased a vehicle which enables everyone living at the home to go out together. One day a week is set aside for trips out to places of interest. People living at the home who completed questionnaires all answered ALWAYS to the question Does the home arrange activities that you can take part in? The AQAA States that the home have employed additional part time staff to ensure greater flexibility in meeting the health and social care needs of people. Staff answered ALWAYS (4) or USUALLY (1) to the question Are there enough staff to meet the individual needs of all the people who use the service? People living at the home all answered ALWAYS to the question Are staff available when you need them? The AQAA outlines a robust recruitment procedure that minimises the risks of abuse to people that live at the home. Staff who completed a questionnaire all said that the home had sought references and undertaken a Criminal Records Bureau check before they began work. The AQAA states that all staff receive training in the safeguarding vulnerable adults policy, whistle blowing and the Mental Capacity Act. Staff who completed questionnaires all said that they received up to date training that was Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 relevant to their job. The home has a complaints procedure which is available in the service user guide and on display in the home. Everyone said that they knew who to speak to informally if they were not happy and everyone knew how to make a formal complaint. All staff who responded to questionnaires said that they knew what to do if someone raised concerns about the home. No complaints have been received since the last inspection. Comments received about the home were positive but one person said that they would like to see better access to the garden area. The AQAA states that one of the plans for the coming year is to Improve access to the garden for the less mobile. One person living at the home commented that it was A pleasant and caring environment with plenty of support. All information received indicates that the home continues to provide an excellent service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
