What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received since the last key inspection. This included: --The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well the service meets the needs of people living there. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. --Telephone discussions with three service users who have lived at Minstead Lodge just six weeks, two years and three to four years. --Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. --What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. Currently the service is provided to fifteen residential service users. There is also a large service provided for day students but that is not a part of this registration or review. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they are continuing to make improvements. We have learned that a new team appointment has been made of instructor in independent living skills who is able to give regular and intensive support to people, beyond the normal key working. This development in the service has enabled service users to learn more quickly and assists with the movement towards more independent living. The AQAA also told us that it is likely that at least part of the registered accommodation will become a supported tenancy within the coming year and this should add to the level of individualised leisure/social activities residents can access. Other developments include staff and volunteers bringing innovative ideas in response to student views over social and leisure opportunities, daytime work, and therapeutic opportunities. The website has been developed and is now very informative and it is regularly updated. Each of the three students we spoke with said they are always treated well and that the staff always listen and act on what they say. I can go in the office if I have a problem. All knew who to talk with if they were unhappy about anything. They expressed satisfaction with the staff support, the food and the building and its facilities. Im happy here. It was scary to change where I was but I like it, its great. You eat what you have but theres always more. We get two big dinners a day. They confirmed they can choose what to do with spare time and that they go shopping, play snooker and go to the cinema. We were told that Minstead Lodge has a minibus and a car that the staff drive. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 inspection. The home has fully co-operated and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and we will do a further Annual Service Review next year and a key inspection by 1 October 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if there are significant changes in the service provision, or we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
