What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information about how the service has managed any complaints. There were none. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. There were none. Telephone discussion with the Registered Manager (who is also the Registered Provider). Telephone discussion with a senior practitioner in the Adult Social Care Department (Learning Disabilities) of the Isle of Wight Social Services . The report of the previous key inspection carried out on 24 April 2007. The results of any other visits that we have made to the service over the last 12 months. We have not made any. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us its annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Since the last key inspection in April 2007 (in which the home was rated as an Excellent 3 Star service) the home continues to provide care for the one person for which it is registered. The person has lived at the home as a member of the family for a long time. As such, as with any family, there are regular discussions on whether the persons needs are being met and on what new things the person might want to try. The home continues to support the person to continue living there and to enable the person to have an active social life in the community. Over the past year this has included the purchase of a cinema card to allow reduced price entry to the cinema, a family holiday to Mexico, and participation in the Special Olympics where he is said to be particularly good at tennis. This is evidence of the homes success in supporting the person to experience a varied and good quality of life. The manager reports that if the person does not wish to take part in a discussion or an activity then thoses wishes are respected. The manager writes Our resident is part of the family. He is happy and contented and leads a full life inside and outside the home. His confidence continues to grow and he is able to make informed choices about all aspects of his life. A routine review of the persons care led by a care manager of Isle of Wight Social Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Services was due to take place around the time of this review. Over the last twelve months the home has been redecorated throughout. It aims to continue to offer a comfortable, family home and to support and enable the person to make informed choices in all aspects of his life in the future. The home continues to manage issues well. It work well with us and has shown that it continues to provide good outcomes for the person living there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 24 April 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the person living there. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
