The home is located close to the centre of Tadcaster and people can access the local services there. The latest reports written by the Commission for Social Care Inspection, as the predecessor of the Care Quality Commission, are displayed in the home for people to read. The Statement of Purpose and service user guide, describing the services and facilities provided are also made available for people to read. The current fees can be obtained from the manager. Annual Service Review Page 2 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Ten surveys returned to us by people using the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA states that in the last year the home has made changes to improve peoples independence and personal interests. The staff rota allocates specific times when carers can help individuals to pursue their own interests and preferences, whether in the home or in the local community, whilst knowing there are other staff to meet the needs of the other people there. Eight of the ten surveys were completed with the help of a care worker at the home. All the survey responses say that the home is always fresh and clean and all add that there is someone they can speak with informally if they are not happy about something. Responses to questions like do the staff listen and act on what you say? and do you receive the care and support you need? and are the staff available when you need them? are generally positive, with almost all the responses replying always or usually. Three people though say that suitable activities are only sometimes arranged at the home for them, and two people told us that staff are only sometimes available when Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 needed. Amost all the other comments though were positive. These included. The home does everything well, for example food, washing and care. And its well organised. The survey responses were discussed with the general manager of the home who agreed to look at whether some changes would improve the outcomes for people living there. Neither the commission nor the home have received any complaints in the past year. A year ago the manager informed us that she planned to apply to be registered with the commission to confirm that she is fit to manage a care home. The manager is now taking steps to be registered, however we had to write to her to check that her application was going ahead. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 15 July 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
