The inspector made no statutory requirements on the home as a result of this inspection

If yes, what have they been: Date of last key inspection: Date of last annual service review (if applicable): Brief description of the service Larch Avenue provides residential care for up to 6 adults service users of either gender with Learning Disabilities. 1a Larch Avenue is a purpose built bungalow with the space, facilities and equipment to accommodate people with additional physical disabilities including wheelchair users. The accommodation is located at the edge of Finningley village. The home has a minibus enabling access to the wider community. All service users attend a range of day care provision including work and education settings during the working week. Regular outings, social events and annual outings are provided for everyone after a risk assessment.

South Yorkshire Housing Association own and operate the service with Doncaster healthcare Trust providing the staff. All service users have a Licence agreement with South Yorkshire Housing Association. This partnership provides and operates three other such residential schemes in the Doncaster area. What did we do for this annual service review? Date of this Annual service Review 11/05/2009 The Quality rating for this care home is 3 star Excellent The quality rating was made on the 16/05/07 Last key inspection 16/05/2007 Last annual service review 15/05/2008 We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection of the service.This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQQA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service.It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service,these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last twelve months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. The manager was contacted for any further information to complete this report. What has this told us about the service? The manager completed the annual quality assurance assessment by the agreed date. It gave clear and good information about the service and provided evidence that they value the views of people using the service. The AQAA told us that each person as a person centred care plan and risk assessment which are signed by service users whenever possible.Feedback from people who use the service is recorded in minutes of meetings,progress notes and satisfaction surveys. Bi annual reviews are also completed to ensure each persons home life and service they receive is reviewed on a regular basis. The AQAA told us what improvements the service had made within the last twelve months and what changes they had made as a result of listening to people for example. People within the home contribute to the newsletters and they have accessed different outings and activities.They use photos of real meals to help people in deciding what meals they like.People within the home help with menu planning and help to write shopping lists.Service user focus group to looks at any new documents to ensure it is service user led. The AQAA told us about staff employed at the home and their qualification.The home as sixteen permanent care staff and ten of these have completed NVQ level 2 training in care or social care. Staff have started training in relation to the Mental Capacity Act,this will ensure that staff are aware of its implications for people who use the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The AQAA said that people who use the service are encouraged to use the complaints procedure if they have any concerns.Staff assist those people to obtain support from an advocate if they do not have any family support.There had been no complaints raised since the last inspection,this was confirmed when checking our inspection records and speaking to the manager. The service continue to work well with us and keep us informed of any issues, they had notified us of any incidents that affected peoples well being and the action taken to prevent re-occurrence. We looked at all the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a excellent service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan,and will do a key inspection by the 15th May 2010.However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of people using the service.
