What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we received since the last key inspection. We checked whether there had been any concerns, complaints or allegations. We looked at other information received from the home that is required by regulation. This included notifications of issues related to peoples well being as per Regulation 37 of the Care Homes Regulations. The manager completed an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This document is a self assessment that focuses on how well the outcomes are being met for people using the service. Surveys were sent to the home for completion by people living and working in the home. We looked at the last key inspection report dated 6th June 2007 and the previous annual service review dated 3rd June 2008. What has this told us about the service? The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) gave the manager the opportunity to say what the home did well, what had improved and what they were working on to improve. The information demonstrated that the home had a proactive approach to meeting the needs and wishes of people living in the home. Surveys were completed by people living and working in the home. People considered that they had received sufficient information about the home and were happy living there. Comments were, Glad I did, better than my last place. The home consulted people to ensure that they had all the relevant information to develop care plans that reflected peoples wishes, choices and needs. People living at the home considered that staff always treated them well and always listened and acted on what was said. Staff considered that they were given up-to-date information about peoples needs, the needs of people living there were paramount and it was a good place to work. Comments were, ...the home is the best one Ive worked in ...everthing is done around the service users , There is great communication and we have daily hand-overs, supervision to discuss any matters we feel need to be passed on, and The home caters for individuals needs no matter how different they are. People took responsibility for the daily routines and weekly menus were drawn up with their full participation. One person said, I do all the things I enjoy doing, and staff said, They do daily activities every day which the service users enjoy, Activities seem to make them happy and some of them keep service users fit and healthy and Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 In Station House staff very caring and always ready to help service users and other staff. Always open and ready to do activities which are very attractive to our service users. The AQAA stated that the complaints procedure was in a user friendly format and each person living in the home also had their personal copy in their own service user guide. The home was committed to providing staff training and this was confirmed by staff. Senior staff also received extra training through NVQs in Team Leading to give additional knowledge relevant to their roles. Staff also enjoyed a good working relationship with their colleagues, It is also very good to know I can have support from other staff if I need it, Trainings are up to date and very interesting, Training is offered regularly and Training relevant to role helps understand and meet individual needs, keep up to date with new ways of working and gives knowledge about health care and medicines. People living in the home and their families also considered that the staff were good. The staff are brilliant and easy to get on with The home had implemented a quality monitoring system that took into account peoples views. This was confirmed by people living and working in the home who considered that the management were supportive. Regular support of manager , The management are excellent and are there for you and the service users and Always listening to staff, clients and families of how to improve the service. We did not receive any complaints about this service and there were no adult safeguarding issues. A member of staff said how happy they were working at the home, It feels like a family run home that all staff and service users have excellent relationships. All the service users look and seem very happy as do the parents. This was confirmed by a relative who said how satisfied she was with the home. I could live there myself - its lovely.... (persons name) really enjoys living in this placement,... so happy... loves all the staff....got plenty to do activities wise.... I drive away knowing (persons name) is well cared for, so Im happy too with this service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The service will continue to be monitored and we can carry out an inspection if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living here.
