This unannounced random visit was carried out as part of our three year inspection programme. Random means we will look at specific areas, this visit we looked at the services complaints and safeguarding systems. The service had its last key inspection in June 2007, and they achieved a three star excellent rating, which means the outcomes for people living at Station House were excellent. The quality rating will only change following a key inspection. therefore the rating for this service will stay the same following this random inspection. The site visit was carried out on 10 May 2010 commencing at 11:00 and finished at 12:30. During the visit we talked to three members of staff, the area manager and the acting manager. We also looked at relevant paperwork. At the time of our visit staff and people living at Station House were preparing to go on hoilday. One person was going to Butlins and the other two were going to Hope Valley to a rented cottage. The people were very excited and looking forward to their holidays. The area manager told us, there had been no adult safeguarding referrals over the last year. The acting manager told us all staff had received training in adult safeguarding and all staff know how to report an alleged incident to safeguard people. Staff we spoke to were all aware of the safeguarding procedures and what to do if an alleged incident occurred. This ensured people were in safe hands at all times. The acting manager told us he had been developing assessments to look at the Mental Capacity Act (MCA)and Deprivation of Liberty safeguards (DOLs). This was to determine people were not deprived. This ensured the persons needs were met. We looked at safeguarding training, all staff had attended this in the last twelve months, to ensure staff were aware of correct procedure to follow to protect people. We looked at the services concerns and compliments record. No concerns had been received. A concerns book was kept in the house, which was easily accessible for anyone who wanted to raise a concern. The surveys returned told us that people knew how to make a complaint and who to speak to if they were not happy. This ensured people were listened to. We received 3 completed surveys from people who live at Station House and their relatives. The comments were mostly positive. Some comments were; They look after me. I enjoy the activities, I like the disco. We also looked at staff recruitment, The files were well organised and easy to locate information. We looked at one staff file in detail, all the required documentation was available. Two references, a Criminal Record check, an application form and any gaps in
Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 4 of 8 employment looked at. This ensured the recruitment process was robust and protected people.
