Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received and asked for since we did our last inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment, we call this the AQAA. The AQAA was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment process that looks in detail at the quality of life for residents who live at the home. The AQAA also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us. What other people have told us about the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. We call these Regulation 37 notifications and they are a legal requirement of registered services. The outcomes from the last key inspection. What has this told us about the service? When we did the last key inspection we found the following outcomes when we looked at what the home does well. We have quoted this section of the last report for the annual service review: Residents are provided with a really good standard of care and service at the home. Residents benefit from a part time physiotherapist who works in the home and assesses their mobility needs. The home increases staffing levels when new residents are admitted to the home. There are also extra staff who work as lounge assistants in the home each day and the staffing levels are above minimum level requirements. The residents are cared for in a kind and considerate way by the staff when helped with their needs and when talking with them. Residents can enjoy a well cooked wholesome and varied diet. There are a range of social and therapeutic events for residents to take part in in. Residents complaints are dealt with well by the home. There is good staff training to help the staff to have a good understanding of residents needs. There are good quality assurance systems in place in the home to help make sure that the views of the residents are listened to and acted upon. The health and safety of residents and staff is well protected. The AQAA document tells us in really good detail how the views of residents are promoted and incorporated into what the home do, we have quoted this extract:We hold periodic meetings with relatives and residents and bring forward the issues raised to the notice of staff and make the necessary changes. We have three monthly feedback questionnaires distributed to residents and relatives. Complaints are investigated and reviewed thus changes are made and incorporated into the daily functioning of the home. Communication with residents on a daily basis by their allocated carers and staff on duty, thus helping us put the residents views into the daily practice. We have regular care reviews these are at least six monthly or quarterly Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 as needed, to ensure residents choices and preferences are adhered to. Staff feedback and concerns of residents are positively used to improve the care home and staff working pattern. We now have regular care meetings held and information cascaded to all staff. We have named carers working in their zones in the home. Social contacts maintained by staff by use of resident dairies in their rooms. We have employed a full time activities coordinator. We help residents to be involved in activities of their choice. We assist residents to go for outings as needed. We read some really useful information in the AQAA document that explains how the home ensure that race, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion and belief are promoted and incorporated into what they do,we have quoted this extract: Care Plans and reviews are formulated with the consultation of the resident and their family taking into consideration their race, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion and belief. Residents cultural choices and preferences are recorded at admission and incorporated onto the residents daily care plan. Residents are given informed choices specially their dietary habits and choice of food. The vicar comes to visit residents who are catholic and says prayer and gives them holy communion. Residents who are Indian are assisted by staff who know their language and also watch the TV programmes of their religion. Our disabled residents are helped to go to the shops or places of their choice with assistance and if they like to go independently. The evidence we looked at for this annual service review helps to demonstrate to us that the home tells us about important things that have happened. The home have been able to show that they manage issues well. The home communicates and liaises well with us. The evidence we reviewed has shown us that the home continues to provide good outcomes for the residents who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by the 14th of November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the residents using the service.
