Alban House provides accommodation and varying degrees of care and support for 22 service users over the age of 40 years. The home promotes independence, choice and respect. The property is situated in the residential area of the coastal town of Ilfracombe. It is close to the facilities of the town centre and is easily accessed to all areas by local transport. The accommodation is provided on four levels and is unusual in that it is a large terraced house, which was formerly three separate houses converted to make one. The home is in the process of being updated and completely refurbished by the owners. There are a variety of private rooms and communal areas. All of the bedrooms are single, some with ensuite facilities. A shaft lift provides access to all areas. The home has accommodated service users` pets where possible. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA in good time and this gave us some information about how they have ensured that the quality of care and support has been reviewed and improved. We wrote to the registered provider about the content of some of the AQAA and asked for further clarification on some aspects such as equality and diversity. Since the draft annual assessment report has been sent the registered providers have replied to our our requests for further detail on what results they received from their dignity audits. Their AQAA contains some details about what areas they plan to improve on since the audit. We have been assured by the registered providers that they have an ongoing programme of improvements. As part of the ASR process we sent surveys to the people who live at the home and we received 7 back. Overall the comments were positive and included the following responses to the question what does the home do well? Usually good food. quite happy The care is good, I am very happy here. personal care and good staff Some people did say they would like to see more activities offered and outings and one person said it would be nice to see butter and fresh milk used occasionally, with more variety offered from time to time. We are now confident that the home is working well with us, and that the outcomes for people at Alban House remain good. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review?
