What the care home does well We examined the care records of two residents and found that the home is properly recording personal information and staff are guided in their work by the written plans of care, based upon the findings of meaningful, relevant and up to date assessments of various aspects of need and condition. From examination of records, direct observation and discussion with Mr Simpson we obtained evidence that staff have a good knowledge of the current residents, and the home is meeting their needs. There have been no new staff employed since the last inspection. From discussion of processes there was evidence that the home operates a reliable and robust recruitment procedure, designed to protect residents from potentially unsuitable staff; new staff would not commence work until the home has obtained Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and records of application, interview, references and induction are kept. The premises are subject to an ongoing programme of improvements and refurbishment, to ensure the home continues to provide residents with a comfortable, attractive and safe environment. What the care home could do better: The home is recommended to develop and implement arrangements for Controlled Drug record keeping, administration and storage to ensure that in the event of such a medicine being prescribed to a resident they are able to fully comply with associated standards.
